The [[Department of English, University of Ljubljana|Department of English]] at the [[University of Ljubljana]] is relatively young. It was formally founded in [[established::1998]] while English language with literature was a study subject at the university since 1920. The Department offers 2 study programmes, both pedagogic and non-pedagogic, at an undergraduate and Master level. The PhD in English language and literature is possible within the interdisciplinary doctoral programme.

== Background ==
The study of English language and literature at the Department for Germanic languages has a fairly long tradition at the Faculty of Arts. Only recently the department became independent and is one of 22 departments at the faculty. 

Until 2010 the study lasted for 4 years study programme at the Bachelor level, now the three-year BA and two-year MA study corresponds to the recent Bologna study reform.

The Department is enrolled in publishing two academic journals: annual journal Acta Neophilologica  since 1968 and ELOPE - English Language Overseas Perspectives and Enquiries journal since 2004.
