Releasing their first album in [[established::2006]], [[Maja Osojnik Band]] have certainly been very convincing about their distinctive quality. Far from being another generic take on Slovenian folk songs and stories, the albums ''Oblaki so rdeči'' [The Clouds are Red] and the follow up ''Črne vode'' [Black Waters] offered very adventurous interpretations, being a more avant-garde, free improvisation, jazz and even chanson flavoured than most other ethno music renditions. Technically versatile, the band is also known for sometimes quirky compositions and touches of musical humour, all this enveloped by the lead singers arresting deep alto voice.

Although the material is primarily coming from folklore motives from Slovenia or the heritage of its 20. century poets ([[Srečko Kosovel]],[[Simon Gregorčič]] etc) and most of the songs are sung in Slovenian, the band is actually Vienna based and is furthermore, composed of Austrian musicians. Philipp Jagschitz on piano and accordion, Bernd Satzinger on contrabass, Michael Bruckner on guitar, and Mathias Koch on percussion are accompanying the band leader, singer, composer and recorder player [[Maja Osojnik]]. 

The band had a number of concerts in Europe and abroad, performing their dramaturgically elaborate acts at Balkan Fever Festival Vienna, Porgy & Bess, Donauinselfest Vienna, Falterfest, Jazz over Villach, Jazzfestival Graz, Jazz Herbst Krems, Austrian Cultural Forum New York, Balkan Fever Festival London, [[Festival Carniola]], [[Festival Lent]], [[Jazzfestival Ljubljana]],  [[Druga Godba Festival]] and many other festivals and venues

SKE-Publicity Award [with Low Frequency Orchestra] 2007; 3. Prize and Composition Award of 'Gradus ad Parnassum' 2003; IYAP - EM [1. Prize with Ensemble MIKADO] 2004; "Voices" - Jazz Fest Vienna Award 2005; Bank Austria Artist of the Year 2008/09; Prize Composition Scholarship from State of Austria and Pasticcio Award (OE1/ORF) with Ensemble MIKADO for the CD 'Can she excuse?' 2009; MIA Award [award for women with migration background in Austria who achieved "Outstanding for and in Austria"] 2010. She performs all over Europe at well-established festivals with different music projects - Rdeča Raketa, Maja Osojnik Band, Ensemble MIKADO, FRUFRU, Subshrubs, Aus dem Mund, broken.heart.collector, Low Frequency Orchestra, Binar, Edward and the innocent Bystanders, Balkon and is part of many other projects as guest musician.

Maja made a name for herself in different musical fields, such as early music, contemporary, experimental, jazz, free improvisation and heavy music. She completed with distinction her master studies in recorder and graduated in pedagogic sciences at the University of Music in Vienna, and further studied singing at the Conservatory Vienna Private University in Vienna.

She was awarded with awards and scholarships, among them “Publicity Preis 2007” from SKE (with Low Frequency Orchestra), Gradus ad Parnassum 2003, IYAP �” EM 2004 (1. Preis with Ensemble MIKADO), „Voices“ Jazz Fest Wien Award 2005, Bank Austria Artist of the Year 2008, in 2009 she was awarded the Austrian state scholarship for composing. In 2010 she is awarded the mia award �” award goes to women, living in Austria, with a background of migration, for their special achievements in different fields, such as art and culture, science, economy, research, humanitarian work, journalism...
