The last edition of the Velenje Artists' Colony took place in 2005.

The 5-day [[Velenje Artists' Colony]] was established by the [[Velenje Gallery]] in [[established::1990]] and traditionally takes place at [[Velenje Castle]]. Its participants are young graduates from the painting department of the [[Academy of Fine Arts and Design]]. Guests from partner academies abroad also participate.

The young artists conclude their work in Velenje with an exhibition at the gallery. A jury bestows two prizes: a purchase of one work and a personal exhibition in the following year. [[Velenje Gallery]] has thus been enriching its permanent collection of the artworks by Slovene artists with the works from the emerging generation (on display at the [[Velenje Castle]]). 

On the occasion of the colony's 20th anniversary (2009) the organisers presented this part of the collection at the intriguing exhibition ''20 let pozneje'' [20 years later] by juxtaposing the paintings made during the early colonies with the recent production of former participants such as [[Zmago Lenardič]], [[Dušan Fišer]], [[Damijan Stepančič]], [[Peter Štrovs]] and others.
