[[Gong Fest]] was established in 2003 in the western border region with Italy, where Slovene Nova Gorica and Italian Gorizia and Šempeter are closely linked through cultural bonds. The so-called ‘Festival of Three Cities’ is co-organised by the Zavod Gong, Nova Gorica, the Controtempo Association from Italian Gorizia and the Biblioteca Civica di Gorizia, with additional programming by the Gorica Student Club, Dance Centre Terpsihora, the Sunshine Club, Zavod Masovna and the Nova Gorica Photographic Association and support from the regional municipalities, the [[Ministry of Culture]] and the Comune di Gorizia. The festival features youth concerts, dance and music workshops (jazz, hip hop) and a creative photography workshop known as Ex-Tempore.
