The European Council of Artists is an organisation which represents professional artists, authors and performers. With financial support from the [[European Commission]], it holds an annual congress and periodic conferences where experiences can be exchanged. The ECA was officially established at the European Film College in Ebeltoft, Denmark, in May 1995. A framework for European co-operation has been set up in order to create a visible interdisciplinary presence for professional artists and their organisations within the European arena, and to monitor changes in administration, financial matters, social practices and technology affecting the situation in which such professional artists work. The ECA is an effective forum for dialogue between professional artists, their representatives and political decision-makers at a European level. A representative organisational structure is being developed in many European countries in order to help professional artists influence European strategies concerning European artists (particularly their social and economic situation) and to secure the necessary degree of openness.

The European Council of Artists is an organisation which represents professional artists, authors and performers. With financial support from the European Commission, it holds an annual congress and periodic conferences where experiences can be exchanged.

ECA members in 2008 included: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, the Faroe Islands, France, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saamiland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
