Avsenik Gallery was founded in 1989 by academic painter Martin Avsenik, the son of musician Slavko Avsenik. It is is located at the Avsenik homestead in Begunje. The Avsenik Ensemble, an internationally-renowned Alpine folk music ensemble, has been awarded many prizes and the Gallery features a permanent collection that presents the history of the ensemble and their international activities. The gallery has an area of 220 square metres and is divided into three sections. On the first floor of the old Avsenik homestead, one room is used for occasional exhibitions of work by renowned domestic and foreign artists, while the other room contains the permanent collection of gold records and other major awards from the 40 years of activities of the musicians Slavko and Vilko Avsenik. Other permanent exhibitions include work produced by the International Symposium of Painters, an exhibition of the Children's Art Colony in Begunje and an exhibition of paintings based on titles of compositions by the Avsenik brothers. Besides the gallery there is a retail gallery and a receiving exhibition hall in which many eminent Slovene and international painters have been presented, for example Jože Šubic, Maksim Gaspari, Ivan and Josip Generalič, Janez Boljka, France and Domen Slana, Dora Plestenjak, Klementina Golja, Lojze Spacal, Salvador Dali, some Dutch painters and also younger artists. The gallery has participated in an exhibition in Genoa and organised the international 'Ex-tempore Slovenia open to the art'.
