Organised in Helsinki since 2004, in 2015 Flow Festival established its partner edition, Flow Festival Ljubljana. This event mirrors the main unit's production model and aesthetics and also shares a part of its musical line-up. Nevertheless, Flow Festival Ljubljana strongly emphasises Slovene artists, who form a sizeable part of the three-day festival programme.

Though the programme is centred around music, there is also a strong focus on arts and lifestyle dimensions. The latter are for example accentuated with a selection of food and beverage stalls featuring acclaimed restaurants and a varied high-end wine and beer selection as well as a creative industries fair with discussions on this topic.

Some of the musical artists invited to the festival in 2015 are Pet Shop Boys, Roisin Murphy, Run the Jewels, Metronomy, Derrick May, Caribou. The local colours are represented, for example, by New Wave Syria, Torul, Polona Kasal, and a wide selection of Slovene DJs.

Besides presenting music acts, the festival is collaborating with a number of local video artists for video visuals and 3D projection mapping. Also, the artist JAŠA is setting up a companion piece to the one he exhibited at the Venice Biennial 2015.

Venue

One of the attractions of the festival is the use of the vast, mostly unused former Tobacco Factory grounds (affectionately known as Tobačna). Set to be expanded into the Tobačna City (Tobačna mesto) architectural and urbanistic project, this area already hosts the Tobacco Museum, Tobačna 001 Cultural Centre, Poligon Creative Centre and Cirkulacija 2. As such, it is in the process of being spontaneously transformed into another urban cultural hub of Ljubljana. This wholesale transformation of the area into the festival grounds is a pioneering appropriation of the area.

In 2012, a couple of Slovene students of architecture were selected at the open call for the design of one of the stages at Flow Helsinki. This connection has been extended in 2015, when the stages and the overall look of the festival grounds were designed by students of Faculty of Architecture and Academy of Fine Arts and Design.
