Originally established in 1962 as a bulletin of archaeology, art history and museology (up to 1964), Argo subsequently became a specialist journal dealing with art history and the museology of antiques and the medieval period. Since 1971 the magazine has been a twice-yearly co-publication of the National Museum of Slovenia, the Association of Slovene Museums and the Slovene Museum Society.
