The Social Activities Department of Sežana Municipality is responsible for health, social security, education, sport, culture and other social activities.
The Municipality is known for Vilenica Cave, which is not only an important natural karst phenomenon but also a setting for the renowned annual literary meetings called Vilenica. The Lipica Horse Stud, founded in 1580 to breed horses for the Vienna Court, has the status of a national cultural institution.
The local branches of the Union of Cultural Societies of Slovenia (ZKDS) and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia (JSKD) facilitate the activities of local cultural organisations and act as mediators in respect of state and municipal funding.
