Abstract

Grosuplje Municipality boasts several heritage sites of great significance. The open-air museum at Magdalenska gora is one of the most significant archaeology sites in Slovenia. Numerous funerary objects from the period around 1100 BCE up to ancient Roman times were excavated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today these may be seen at the National Museum of Slovenia as well as in Harvard and Vienna. The Archaeology Study Road with its eight information points is a major tourist attraction. Above Cerovo the medieval church of St Nicolaus, built in the 15th century, is well preserved. It is called Tabor ('encampment') since it is surrounded by a wall which protected the local population from Turkish invasions. The Louis Adamič Memorial Room is housed in the birthplace of Louis Adamič, a writer who spent most of his life in the USA. His literature dealt with the social and political issues of both countries (eg Dynamite, The Return to the Birth Place, The Eagle and the Roots).
