Active as a society since 1986, [[Imago Sloveniae]] was established as a non-profit organisation (ustanova or foundation) in 1994. Its initiator was Primož Lorenz (1942-2007), Slovene musician and pedagogue. Imago Sloveniae collaborates with cultural and touristic organisations and small enterpreneurs with the aim of enlivening Slovenia's old towns and historical centres, squares, castles, museums and sacred architecture. Summer festivals in individual towns are enriched by events that relate to local heritage sites or objects, which help to develop cultural life as well as the image of towns and regions. The main characteristics of the project Imago Sloveniae are: polycentric activities that bring the high-quality culture from big cities to smaller towns; complex revitalisation of architectural heritage via live arts and culture events; the development of a common label for the Slovene cultural image and promotion of Slovene culture through the linking of live culture with heritage; the discovery of new sites for cultural events (open air, unusual venues in the streets, courtyards, churches, museums); professional organisation of cultural events, offering high quality and free accessibility; and connection of towns and co-ordination of homogenous cultural space. Each Summer in Slovenia more than 50 events take place in over 30 towns (see the list of towns at the website). Numerous events are organised within the 'Summer in Old Ljubljana' project which starts end of June and ends in September, with several additional events in the special night called 'The Night in Old Ljubljana'. | Active as a society since 1986, [[Imago Sloveniae]] was established as a non-profit organisation (ustanova or foundation) in 1994.
