The Award is named after a composer, opera singer, and a musical pedagogue Julij Betetto(1885-1963). His musical career was established with collaboration with Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) and at the Slovene National Theatre (SNG) Ljubljana - Opera and Ballet where he worked as a head of the opera house. In 1961 Betetto received a Prešeren Award for his life's work.
