Ballet teaching in Maribor originated with the Ballet Studio of the [[Slovene National Theatre (SNG) Maribor]], which became part of the Centre for Music Education in 1977. However, in 1981 a secondary ballet programme was launched and the Centre for Music Education was amalgamated with Tabor Music School to form the [[Maribor Music and Ballet Secondary School]]. The School became an Art Grammar School in 1999.
