Etnika is a young festival which embarked on its mission of bringing fresh world music to the city of Maribor in 2005. The second goal of the festival is to bring new performers, new names who have never before performed in Slovenia. In 2006 Etnika hosted three such artists: Poum Tchack (France), Pressburger Klezmer Band (Slovakia) and Arasinda (Hungary). The 2007 festival included three more new groups: Banjara - The Gypsies of Radjastan (India), Eszter Biro (Hungary) and Montevideo (Uruguay, Chile, USA, Croatia, Austria). | Etnika is a young festival which embarked on its mission of bringing fresh world music to the city of Maribor in 2005. The festival is produced by Pekarna Magdalena Network and takes place annually at Pekarna Cultural Centre in Maribor. The 2007 festival took place for the first time in three different venues (Satchmo Jazz Club, Maribor, and Cantante Restaurant and Gustaf Hall, Pekarna in Pekarna), which brought more interest in the festival and increased attendance by almost 50 per cent in comparison with the first and second year. The best-attended concert was a most unusual yet very exceptional and original one: it was given by Xu Fengxia, guzheng player and a singer from China.
