Inaugurated in 1998, the Festival at the Border is a rock music festival that takes place on the border between Austria and Slovenia, featuring both Austrian and Slovene groups and attracting audiences from both countries. It is going near the small village Trate - which has a history of alternative culture dating back to the 1980s - in the castle Cmurek. On one side it overlooks the Austrian settlement Mureck and on the other the Slovene hillside.
Similarly, it's organizers are the Slovene cultural association KUD Zid na meji and the Austrian Youth Club JUZHOUSE Mureck. The concept of the festival is in promoting young and emerging rock bends, taking a special focus on those from the north-eastern part of Slovenia. As the festival is an international collaboration, musicians from Austria are more or less equally represented. Sometimes, bends from other countries (Italy, Croatia) are also invited.
The festival was temporarily dislocated in autumn 2011, when it's summer edition - featuring the whole line-up - was repeated on the stage of Gala hala in Ljubljana.
