Launched in 1986 by the Maribor branch office of the Public Fund for Cultural Activities (JSKD), the Naša pesem ('Our song') Choir Competition is a national event held annually with the support of [[Maribor Urban Municipality]]. Each year around 20 choirs compete for gold, silver and bronze plaque and diplomas at four competition concerts, which are followed by the final concert by the best choirs. The obligatory programme for participants includes a folk song, or an arrangement of it, plus two original choral compositions.
