Velenje Literary Foundation (UVKF) was established in 2001 by Velenje Urban Municipality on the initiative of a poet Ivo Stropnik to support book publishing, reading and language culture in Velenje and elsewhere in Slovenia. Its priorities are publishing and the promotion of literary and artistic works, humanities and social sciences literature and domestic research. Its activities are funded by Velenje Urban Municipality and have attracted some Ministry of Culture grants as well as donations from sponsors and sales of books.

Since 2002 the Foundation has organised the annual Herberstein's Literary Meeting of Slovene Writers, which features various symposia and involves the participation of more than 100 guests, theoreticians, translators and artists from Slovenia and abroad.

UVKF also publishes the regional magazine Šaleški razgledi and two book collections: Belodvorski (literature for adults) and A Chocolate with a Book (for children and youth). In 2003 it published a book on local student club activities and in 2005 the book of texts on the 1939-1945 period in Šaleška Valley.
