Though nominally established in 2014, the Ljubljana based Stiropor Collective has been setting up clubbing and festival events for quite some time now. That is because the core of the collective has up until 2014 been heading Bikofe, a cult and now closed bar that served as a meeting place for many artists and creative workers of the younger generation. Catering to a somewhat hip clientèle, the bar also had regular clubbing and concert evenings, staging an international mix of very varied musical acts.

As in the spring of 2014 it became obvious that due to neighbours complaints, Bikofe won't be able to set up events any more, its managers announced the Stiropor Festival, which presented a very strong line-up that included a number of local artists (most of them also regular visitors of the bar) and a curios selection of contemporary dance music acts, from techno to grime and r'n'b (Dean Blunt, Jessy Lanza, Om Unit, etc). While this festival has an annual frequency, the crew also started setting up monthly club events in 2015, bringing artists like Mndsgn (USA) and Conforce (NL). While they use different venues for their events, their preferred locations are set in Metelkova mesto Autonomous Cultural Zone.

Stiropor also acts as a label. Its first release, a double vinyl LP that showcased a choice selection of the Slovenian beats scene protagonists, accompanied the first edition of the festival. Besides compilations like this, they also started releasing mixtapes on cassettes. Here it could also be mentioned that, due to Bikofe being the node for many a visual artist and designer, Stiropor releases and various promotional materials can usually boast quite imaginative designs.
