Occupying the entire first floor of the castle, the museum's permanent exhibition 'Life in Prekmurje from Prehistory to the Present' was designed by Vladimir Pezdirec and installed in 1997. It leads visitors from prehistory to antiquity and the Middle Ages, thorough Romanesque and Gothic to Baroque and finally down to the present day. Special mention is made of the Jews and their stay in Prekmurje, rural life, development after incorporation into the first Yugoslavia, and the suffering in World War II. The exhibition concludes with an interesting collection of life in the first half of the 20th century. There is also a museum library. In 1999 the Museum received a special award for its creative and imaginative approach from the [[European Museum Forum (EMF)]].
