Background
The Department of Geography was established in 1919, the same year as Ljubljana's university. The 32 staff members, both pedagogic and non-pedagogic, deal with around 500 students, at a graduate and postgraduate study programme. In 2002 the department launched a research institute, focusing on environmental and regional-development studies.
The Department of Geography also houses the largest geographical library, which is a part of the Faculty of Arts Central Humanities Library.
Publications
There are several publications run by the department's staff and its collaborators. One is DELA, a periodical aimed at scientific paper and materials. The other publication is GeograFF aimed at a more general public interested in geography. Articles from both publications are available in digital format at DLib.si - Digital Library of Slovenia.
