Hest Gallery was opened in 1989 in Maribor by Emil Šarkanj. It is the best-known private retail gallery in the city, presenting mostly figurative art works by older artists plus the occasional exhibition of work by international artists. In 1993 Emil Šarkanj opened the Hest Gallery, Ljubljana and in 2002 established its third gallery there, Hest 35 Gallery, Ljubljana.
