Established in 1952 and with members in 80 countries on five continents, AITA/IATA – the International Amateur Theatre Association - is the powerful voice of the global amateur theatre community. There are literally millions of people around the world actively involved in amateur theatre. These people share a commitment to creative theatrical expression without remuneration, and are members of more than 100,000 amateur theatre groups. Amateur theatre activity worldwide comes under the auspices of National AITA/IATA Centres. Under its banner of universal understanding and education through theatre, AITA/IATA promotes cross-frontier co-operation, artistic enrichment and a sense of universal togetherness.
