Established in 1960 with the merging of two existing city libraries, [[Kranj Central Library]] performs the tasks of regional library for Gorenjska, serving as a public library and a culture and information centre for a region with 75,000 inhabitants. The Library has a Youth Department and a mobile library and manages branches in Stražišče, Naklo, Preddvor, Šenčur, Cerklje and Jezersko. Poetry is the Salt of the World, the Slovenian-Chinese poetry reading, taking place simultaneously at the Kranj City Library, presenting Slovenian poets Anja Z. Golob, Esad Babačić, Gregor Podlogar and Karlo Hmeljak, and Chinese poetes Zhao Ye, Er Mao, Lanlan, and Dai Weina. Supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Beijing that published original poems with translations.
The Library Association of Gorenjska is based at the library.
