One of the most active and oldest NGOs in the region, Kanal Ceramics Society seeks to develop and promote art and culture continuing the tradition of the Kanal's reading society which was founded by Josip Kocijančič in 1867. It runs an active cultural programme including the Riko Debenjak Gallery that puts on display a permanent collection of Riko Debenjak's prints and organises several individual and group exhibitions. A high–quality music festival Kogoj’s Days is organised annually by the Kanal Ceramics Society who runs Kazimir Nanut Male Choir and the Club of Ceramists as well. The Society is also in charge of the Joseph Kocijančič Library that is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Club of Ceramists Kanal

The Club of Ceramists Kanal, established in 1994, seeks to popularise unique ceramics. It joins 26 members that gather at weekly meetings and organise exhibitions The author of the month to present their latest works in the premises of the Club on Kidričeva Street, for example in 2012 there were exhibitions by Ferdo Žorž, Andreja Krpan, Nives Volk and others. Individual members also participate in workshops and exhibitions elsewhere in Slovenia and abroad. Every year a group exhibition is organised in the Riko Debenjak Gallery, the first one taking place in the Gothic house, and exhibitions at the end of the Club's ceramics courses. Various ceramics and sometimes sculpture workshops are organised by the Club and so far they have been led by Dubravka Urban, Alenka Vidrgar, Darja Žorž, Tone Rački, Petra Škerjanc, Zvonko Bizjak and Dragica Čadež the latter teaching about small–scale sculpture.

The Club cooperates with related associations, with Ceramics Artists and Pottery Makers Association and the Ceramicists Society POC Ajdovščina for instance. The biennial group exhibition TRANSFORMA is organised in collaboration with Centro Culturale Tullio Cralli from Gorizia.
