Džjezz Festival was launched in 2009 in Celje by the than newly opened Hiša kulture Celje [House of culture Celje]. It was built on the legacy of the regular jazz concerts that Celje has been hosting up until than (and, now under the name Džjezz do it in , still is) and is meant to facilitate further creative developments in the region. While the core concerts of the festival is currently taking place in the so called Lapidarium at the Savinja river bank, the festival and its additional programme has up until now been spaced out throughout the city and hosted by a number of different venues, like the Art kino Metropol Celje.


Some of the musicians hosted by this festival are Simone Zanchini , Danny Grissette Trio (USA), Francesco Cafiso Duo (ITA), Enrica Bacchia & Massimo Zemolin, Jadranka Juras & Milan Stanisavljević, Will Vinson group, and a number of highly profiled Slovene musicians and bands such as Big Band Krško, Robert Jukič Group, Jani Moder, Kaja Draksler Quintet and Jure Pukl NYC Quintet.
