Set up in the late-nineties, Street Explosion used to be a conglomerate of people active in the so-called urban culture. Joining hip hop, breakdance, graffiti and video artists and enthusiasts, this urban movement had its first festival emanation in 1999. Musicians both from Slovenia as well as abroad were invited to perform alongside other 'street' modes of expression and a number of these Street Explosion events were being held at various venues like Klub K4, Trnfest and Kodeljevo Castle until 2003. Their music programme, which was not limited to hip hop, featured – among others – Elvis Jackson, Srečna mladina, Cancel, Eyesburn (SR), Masta Ace (USA), Moveknowledgement, The Beat Fleet (HR), Bolesna brača(HR),...
One of their more special events was the first big hip hop festival in Slovenia, which happened in 2002 and was held in the Sport hall Triglav. It attracted a crowd of more than 2000 people with musicians like General Woo, Bolesna Brača, Edo Maajka, Murat & Jose, 6Pack Cukur, Klemen Klemen, Nikolovski, Trkaj, a number of other Slovenian hip hop artists and DJs and also an international 'breakdance battle'.
In 2014, the festival was once again – under the name Street Explosion »Back to the Roots« – held at Cvetličarna venue and hosted both some of the artists from the 2002 and a number of others. There were, for example, Edo Maajka, Bad Copy, Kiša Metaka, Don't Make New People collective, Yugovinil and quite a few others.
