ŠMOCL is an acronym for the Student, Youth and Children Centre of Laško and this more or less sums the rather wide range of its activities. They equally indulge in programmes for pre-school kids as well as set up regular punk and metal concerts, and for example also mobilise the local student population to participate with the local TV project. This is also run by ŠMOCL, which is at the same time a venue opened up in 2002 and a locally oriented collective that also engages in projects like the Beer and Flower Festival and the children festival Pisani balon.

ŠMOCL activities are most often an extension of the initiatives that come from the local community. For example, due to a number of sport climbers from the area, the club screens climbing related movies, participates in filming the local climbing ascents and helps with the relates events. Similarly, for example, due to some notable young musicians living in Laško, their respective genres are more present in the clubs programme.

Video activities

ŠMOCL is particularly strong in this field and is the producer of the regional web-based video news programme called Laško TV. They also film the activities of the Centre and rent out their audio and video equipment to other protagonists in the area. Some time ago, ŠMOCL was also a co-producer in quite a few independent short film productions, some of them screened at International Mountain Film Festival Domžale.

Music programme

Music-wise, the programme is very wide indeed and often includes musicians from abroad, like for example the metalcore band Undying. Some of the presented artists were the jazz musicians Bojan Krhlanko, Jaka Kopač, Robert Jukič and their respective bands, the local metal group In The Crossfire, and bands such as Human host Body, Joko Ono, Čompe. There are also sometimes various club nights and events that feature DJ competitions.

Šmocl was a part of the Punk Rock Holiday prevent and has hosted the punk bands Banner Pilot (USA), Sraightline (DE) and Deadends (AUS). Other representatives of this genre that stopped at ŠMOCL were also Linterno (IT), Terrafraid (UK) and Edgarville (UK).

Additionally, the place organises children's day care, workshops on photography, international exchanges and is rather popular for its table tennis and table football equipment. ŠMOCL cooperates with the the Velenje festival, the Laško Public Library and tens of others, from the local fishing club to various other regional educational, sports and cultural institutions.
