Background
Society for the Study of Popular Music has published over forty volumes of music publications in various forms and contents, starting with the newspaper Glasbena mladina, magazines GM, Muska and now Glasna. Regardless of different forms, editors and writers the magazines’ volumes are continuous, for example, the first number of Glasna was published under the forty-first volume. Muska (1996 – 2009) was a reputable music magazine, which was devoted to criticism, news, interviews and photography from the music world. Its focus was on the Slovene and world music scene, covering numerous genres from classical music, jazz, world music, music soundtracks to more or less independent music, such as rock, hip hop or electronic music. After its publication and editorial staff were involuntarily replaced by a new magazine and staff of Glasna, the collective of Muska decided to continue with their music criticism in the form of an online magazine, Nova Muska. Their writers, who are considered as one of the best Slovene music publicists, contribute their articles on an unpaid, volunteer basis. Their collective consists of about 50 people and some of them are associated with the Radio Študent. They believe Nova Muska offers them a platform through which they can be independent in their writing, as well as it offers the readers a free content. They do not restrain themselves with the music genres nor with locality of music. They continue with a critical analysis of music, by being informative, educative and theoretical. While their contributions are more scarce compared to the printed Muska, they organise interesting public discussions on the current Slovene music scene that are also available for listening under the Podcast section on their web-page. In the end of April 2012 they released a CD which includes a collection of all thirteen volumes of the magazine Muska and is available for a free download on their website, in the Podcast section under the number 16.
