"#BeYourOwnPlatform: radical digital authonomy for musicians" - a talk by Luka Prinčič of Kamizdat netlabel.
at the DIWO Week
Kamizdat is a slovene netlabel managed by Luka Prinčič/Nova deViator and Maja Delak. It is dedicated to releasing local artists but it still manages to cover a vast scope of genres and styles. At first, it was primarily committed to digital releases (downloads), but every now an then they also deliver physical releases in limited editions. The label pays a great deal of attention to collaboration with local artisans, so their efforts are always characterised by the values of D.I.Y. ethos, local participation, use of free software, environmental concerns and critical theory.
Kamizdat's releases are rather genre-resistant, focused on Slovene geographical space and undiscovered audio-visual creators. They are mostly released under Creative Commons licences, although sometimes they don't even apply those, depending on the preferences of the authors themselves - Kamizdat's authorship management is 'copyleft' rather than 'copyright'. All the releases are available for download and/or purchases on the Kamizdat's Bandcamp page.
Culture.si offers information on Slovene cultural producers, venues, festivals and support services, all in one place. It encourages international cultural exchange in the fields of arts, culture and heritage. The portal and its content is owned and funded by the Ministry of Culture, funded by the European Union Recovery and Resilience Plan and developed by Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory.
