Festival Carniola is an international summer festival of music, theatre and dance. It presents Slovene and also international performers of jazz, classical music, opera, street theatre, classical theatre, contemporary dance, and folk dance. Past performances include Laibach (Slovenia), Terrafolk (Slovenia), The Platters (USA), Gwen Hughes (USA), Huerque Mapu (Argentina), Afrikali (Tanzania), Mariachi & Ballet Folclorico Policromia Mexicana (Mexico), Josipa Lisac (Croatia), Conjunto Artistico Maraguan (Cuba), Vermicelli Orchestra (Russia), Rimpparemmi (Finland) and Picikato Brass Band (Macedonia). Many events are performed in the open air or, in cases of rain, in the Prešeren Theatre Kranj or at Khislstein Castle. As part of the wider Carniola Festival, the Kiselfest Festival offers a programme for children, while the local Kranj Jazz Festival presents domestic conventional jazz groups and some traditionally oriented international artists.
