Trnfest Festival is a traditional international summer festival which mainly takes place in August on an open-air stage and inside the KUD France Prešeren Arts and Culture Association as well in some other corners of the centre of Ljubljana. Since its beginning in 1992 the festival's programme is broad and combines theatrical events, music, video projections, dance performances and afternoon shows for children; attendance is free of charge. The main criteria for inclusion in its programme were variety, humorous content and a degree of summertime levity. Gradually Trnfest Festival transformed itself into the social easy going gathering, kind of summer festivity with the programme withdrawn into the secondary plan. In spite of newly found functionality of Trnfest occasionally some fine music and artistic performances still can be found at the festival.
