The International Student Film and Video Festival FILOFEST is a festival which was created in 2006 and is run by the students of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. The FILOFEST festival is organised in cooperation with Radio-Television Slovenia (RTV Slovenia) and it usually takes place in the beginning of the December at the Faculty of Arts. The festival focuses on film and video production made by students and young people from around the world. The films can be made in any given genre: from fiction, documentary or experimental. After two years the festival will take place again in December 2010.


The competition part of the programme is aimed exclusively for independent student film and video production made by amateur authors without formal film education. The accepted entry films must be made without the help of professional production, schools or academies. The non-competition programmes is reserved for films made by students of film academies or other film schools.

The film programme at the festival is accompanied by lectures, panel discussions, video workshops, exhibitions, guided tour of RTV and other social events.

In 2007, the winner in the category the best film was Estonian director Darja Kornijenko with her film Frequent Meetings. The award for the best director award was given to Portugese director Mario Gomes (Terminal). The award for the best fiction film was given to Slovenian director Luka Puš for the film Močvirje (Swamp), the award for the best scenario was given to Brasilian film Café La Rochelle (Tiago Américo). Film Evaporation by Simon Chang was voted for the best experimental film, film Smrt (Death) by Mitja Manček for the best animated film and Balkan Junctions (Luksuz produkcija) for the best documentary film. The best acting award was given to Vitomir Vratarič for the film Voda v očeh (Water in the Eyes).
