Each year at the Festival of Slovene Film an expert jury bestows several Vesna Awards, named after the Slovene cult film of the 1960s. These include the Vesna Award for Best Picture, the Vesna Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress (main and supporting role), the Vesna Award for Best Short Film, the Vesna Award for Best Film or Documentary Work on Magnetic Tape, the Vesna Award for Best Student Film, the Vesna Award for Best Director, the Vesna Award for Best Editing, the Vesna Award for Best Cinematography, the Vesna Award for Best Stage Design, the Vesna Award for Best Costume Design, the Vesna Award for Best Make-up, the Vesna Award for Best Special Effects, the Vesna Award for Best Animation, the Vesna Award for Best Musical Score and the Vesna Award for Best Sound. The jury can also bestow up to five Vesna Special Acknowledgements.
At the 9th Festival of Slovene Film in September 2006 Kratki stiki ('Short Circuits') by Janez Lapajne walked off with most of the Vesna Awards - best feature film, best director, best script (Janez Lapajne), best leading actress (Tjaša Železnik), best supporting male actors (Sebastijan Cavazza and Boris Cavazza), best editing, best sound and best musical soundtrack. The remaining Vesna Awards went to Tjaša Ferme (best supporting actress) and Dejan Spasič (best actor) for the film 'My Small Lovers'.
