Background
After graduating at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana, architects Vesna Vozlič Košir and Matej Vozlič worked in the studio of architect Boris Podrecca in Vienna. They were also members of the community of free architects DESSA Architecture Centre.
Projects
Atelje Vozlič has created numerous and diverse projects, from the design of single-family houses, adaptations, office buildings, renovations and interiors to public buildings and urban planning. Their motto is an identity architecture that reflects the historical and contemporary cultural image. Some examples of their works are the elementary school in the Cirius Kamnik complex, the elementary school in Višnja Gora, the villa along the Barjanska Road, the weekend at Jasna in Kranjska Gora and the pavilion of the AS Restaurant in Ljubljana.
In recent years, their most extensive project is the renovation of the banks of the river Ljubljanica from Tromostovje to Zoisova Street, including the renovation of Novi trg in Ljubljana, which, as Matej Vozlič says, “returns to the city a symbolic and romantic role of the river Ljubljanica and the Mediterranean character of Ljubljana”.
Awards
Atelje Vozlič received numerous awards for their work. Their initial success was the victory at the competition for the reconstruction of Ljubljana’s Petkovškovo embankment with the Butchers Bridge and urban area to the railway station in 1981.In 1994, they won the Plečnik Medal for the pavement reconstruction on the Cankar’s embankment, and in 2003 another Plečnik Medal for the building of the Linde MPA Company in Ljubljana. In 2007 they received the Prešeren Foundation Award and in the same year the Interier Award for Opera Bar on Ljubljana’s Cankarjeva Street. In 2016, they received another Interier Award for the Ljubljana’s Centre of Innovative Entrepreneurship NLB.
They participated in the Contemporary Architecture in Slovenia exhibition, organised by the National Institute for Architectural Education in New York in 1991.
In 2012, they won the prestigious European Prize for Urban Public Space, together with Boris Podrecca, ATELIERarhitekti, Urbi, BB arhitekti, DANS Arhitekti, Trije Architects and Medprostor Architecture Studio, for the renovation of the banks of the river Ljubljanica in the section flowing through the old Ljubljana centre.
In 2018, Vozlič Atelier won the Plečnik Award, the highest Slovene award in the field of architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture and interior design.
