The Department of Library and Information Science and Book Studies Library functions as a part of the relatively young Department of Library and Information Science and Book Studies, which was established in 1987 at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana. The Library holds publications and learned journals for students and individuals from the field of library, information science and book studies. The Library cooperates with libraries abroad and in Slovenia, especially with the National and University Library.

Background

Part of the Faculty of Arts Central Humanities Library the Library was established in 1996 as an independent library. Currently it has more than 7000 units. Formerly, the Library functioned as a part of the Library of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ljubljana.

Publications

Since 1996 the Library publishes The News Bulletin several times per year in order to inform its users, members of the staff and colleagues from other departments. The Library holds several international journals and reference series on library science and related disciplines.

In 2007 the Department published a journal to celebrate the 20th anniversary of establishing the department. The journal is available online and includes articles on the development of the Library. Hedvika Pavlica, Head of the Library and author of the article, contributed an article on the history of Department's library and noted trends in increasing number units and users.
