Since the recent institutional reorganisation, Kino Velenje operates as a part of the Velenje Festival Institute, which is run by the Municipality of Velenje. The cinema is a part of the
Art Cinema Network, which distributes selected art film production around Slovenia. Today, almost half of the film programme at Kino Velenje is composed of art film production.
During the famous Pika's Festival in September, the cinema organises Pika's Cinema, a one-week festival of children's and teen films. In the summer, the open-air cinema Zvezde pod zvezdami [Stars under the Stars] is organised and presented on various locations in town. On different occasions the cinema presents the recent film production in thematically rounded projections.
