NEMO is an independent network which offers representation and information for the European museum community. The network is made up of museum organisations within the countries of the European Union (EU), as well as representatives from the countries associated with the EU. It provides information to museums on relevant EU initiatives and other issues of importance, formulates responses to policy issues such as copyright, funding programmes, statistics and the role of museums, lobbies European institutions, particularly the EU, on all issues relevant to museums, promotes the role and importance of museums to European policymakers, and encourages the exchange of information between museums and museum organisations throughout Europe. NEMO has an informal structure, no staff and no budget. All expenses are paid for by the museum organisations that are its members. It has three main ways of communicating with members: a quarterly newsletter, a website and an annual meeting involving representatives from each country.
The Association of Slovene Museums and the Ministry of Culture are both members of NEMO.
