Background
Marina Gržinić and Aina Šmid have worked together since 1982. Before establishing the Art Video Institute they had a punk band and were involved in performance art. They have collaborated in more than 40 video art projects, made a short 16mm film and created numerous video and media installations; independently they have also directed several video documentaries and television productions.
International screenings and awards
Their 1993 Germany World Video Competition exhibit Luna 10 won awards at the San Francisco International Film Festival. Their works have also been presented at the Videonale, Bonn; at the exhibition ‘Europe-Europe, the Century of Avant garde in Central and Eastern Europe’ in Bonn; as part of the ‘Video Viewpoints Program’ at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; at the London Film Festival; and at the ICC Biennial, Tokyo.
