Background
The roots of Slovene librarianship in Austrian Carinthia date back to the 1920s. In 1927 the Slovene Education Association in Klagenfurt (Slovenska prosvetna zveza v Celovcu), formerly known as the Slovene Christian Social Association, founded the first central library, which later became the Slovene Study Library. During World War II a large part of its collection was destroyed or confiscated. Gradually, the library was reconstructed, and its collection has been increasing in size ever since.
