Being a collaboration between two DJs and a drummer, Jimmy Barka Experience are a rather special musical set up. The trio consists of DJ Bakto, DJ Borka (both of them very much into funk, soul and rare groove, which they present in their respective shows on Radio Študent) and Marjan Stanić, a renowned Slovene percussionist and a member of Čompe, Bast, Vasko Atanasovski Trio, Lolita and many other groups.

Though coming from slightly different musical backgrounds (Stanić is more into ethno and jazz), they have found a way of effectively combining live drumming with electronic samples and mash-ups produced with turntables.

Their music is a fine mixture of funk, breakbeat, Balkan rhythms, rock and afro sounds, escorted by powerful live performances, easily suitable for wild dancing. Jimmy Barka Experience (named after Džimi Barka, a character from an old Serbian film called When I'm Dead and Gone and played by Dragan Nikolić) first appeared on the monthly funk event called Zeleno Sonce held at Gala hala in 2010.

Live appearances

Since then they have opened for Ursula Rucker, Gramatik and Parov Stelar, performed a wide number of solo shows on different festivals (Druga Godba Festival, Etnika International World Music Festival, MENT Ljubljana, Pohoda festival (SK), etc.) and were invited to clubs throughout Slovenia and abroad (amongst them the Cankarjev dom Culture Centre and Potemkin Halle (DE)).
