Established in February 2001 within the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU), the Janez Vajkard Valvasor Foundation promotes the research and preservation of the Slovene cultural heritage. It does so by reproducing old books, manuscripts, and documents of historical value, often in limited editions, though many have been donated to public libraries so as to facilitate their accessibility to a wider public. Notable among the facsimiles published by the foundation are the Album of the Ljubljana Noble Society of St Dismas, a document on the aristocracy and their arts during the Baroque period with added commentary and a Slovenian translation, and Iconotheca Valvasoriana, which comprises 7752 prints by various artists rendering a wide range of motifs.
