Course of competition
Competition takes place over the weekend: there is a reception of the choirs on Friday, competition in mandatory and free programme on Saturday and a competition for Grand Prix of Maribor on Sunday.
The obligatory programme for participants in 2013 mustn’t be longer than 12 minutes and has to include original Slovene choral compositions, Romantic composition and a piece of choice from Galuss's collection Monumenta artis musicae Slovenie.
Programme for the Grand Prix of Maribor has to have at least 3 pieces. One of them can be from obligatory or free programme, one of them can be folk song, one can have instrumental accompaniment, all of then mustn't be longer than 15 minutes.
Programm orientation
Choirs have to present three to four programmes: rounded programm with characteristic music of the land from which the choir comes from (non-competitive performance), programme of historical periods, free programme and extra programme in the final. The competition is extremely challenging because the choir can repeat only one song through the contest and fully has to prepare around 45 minutes of pure music. It is estimated by the jury which always consists of five members: two from Slovenia and three from abroad. Selection of the members of jury is conducted according to strict criteria - each jury member must have internationally recognizable achievements of high artistic value. The criteria are adapted to the most demanding international competitions.
