The origins of Kosovel Library may be traced back to the establishment of a Readers’ Association in 1852. Now one of 60 public libraries in Slovenia, it has changed its name and location numerous times, acquiring its current name (after the poet Srečko Kosovel) and autonomous status in 1962. Over the years it has developed a network of three branch libraries, Divača, Hrpelje and Komen, which are open two days a week. Since 1995 the library stock has been searchable via the COBISS - Slovene Virtual Library system. Today the library has 9,000 registered users, holds around 110,000 titles within 1,265 square metres of space and employs seven professional staff.
