Narodni dom Mežica was established in 1940 as a regional cultural centre. It is led by Public Cultural Institution Narodni dom Mežica and provides mostly theatre plays, puppet theatre shows and music concerts. It also serves for events like official ceremonies, occasional various exhibitions and events like the KOFF Koroška Outdoor Film Festival.

Some of the theatres whose plays are regularly hosted at Narodni dom Mežica are the Slovene National Theatre Drama Ljubljana, Ljubljana Puppet Theatre, Koper Theatre, Maribor Puppet Theatre and Mini Theatre. Of the occasional music acts on the stage of Narodni dom, one can name RTV Slovenia Big Band, MI2, Carmina Slovenica, Šukar and Josipa Lisac.
