Background
In 2013 a group of associations and individuals from the field of art and culture took over the space, named after its address Glavni trg 22, hence GT22. In the basement, where there used to be a striptease bar (that's how the name came about), first a theatre stage named Intimate Stage, GT22 was established in 2014 after the first round of renovation. After the closing of the city cinema Kino Udarnik two years later the Association for Film Culture Development, Maribor also moved into the space and with it also the film programme.
Programme
The cinema runs from September till June, hosting from two to four screenings a month. The majority of the programme are Slovenian and documentary films, which are accompanied by talks and discussions with guest artists and experts. It also hosts presentations of Slovenian and local film artist filmographies and talks with the authors as part of the Extreme Slovene (Ekstremno Slovensko) series. At least once a year it organizes a screening of the best Slovenian animated shorts.
Festivals
The Intimate Cinema also hosts screenings by several international film festivals that are organized in Maribor and the region, such as: Enimation, International Children and Youth Film Festival, Stoptrik International Film Festival, Grossmann Fantastic Film and Wine Festival, Festival of Migrant Film, Ljubljana Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and City of Women International Festival of Contemporary Arts.
