Founded in 1997 within the [[Slovene National Theatre (SNG) Nova Gorica]] building, [[Nova Gorica City Gallery]] has since developed into one of the most high-profile contemporary arts spaces in the Goriška region. Initially operating as part of [[Goriška Museum]], it was transferred to the management of [[Nova Gorica Arts Centre]] in 2000. Its exhibition programme includes all genres of contemporary art, presenting the work of young artists and curators in up to 10 exhibitions each year. As well as mounting exhibitions, Mestna galerija Nova Gorica is the site of various talks on contemporary visual arts, fine arts workshops for children, and guided exhibition tours for the public. The exhibition space covers an area of 361 square metres, its specific circular shape represents a special creative challenge for artists, and enables a very personal experience of the artworks. | Founded in 1997 within the [[Slovene National Theatre (SNG) Nova Gorica]] building, [[Nova Gorica City Gallery]] has since developed into one of the most high-profile contemporary arts spaces in the Goriška region.
