De Profundis Chamber Choir was established in 1990. Under the conductorship of Branka Potočnik Krajnik, the choir has gained a reputation of being among the finest interpreters of vocal music. The choir expands its concert repertoire especially in theme-based music projects such as Love Songs (2003), European Renaissance Music and Slovene Creativity – Folk Music (2004), Slovene Creativity – Artistic Music (2006), Love in Slovene Folk Songs (2007), SACRAE (2009), Fate of a Woman (2010). The choir has recorded more than 30 first performances of works written by respected Slovene composers (e.g., Damijan Močnik, Brina Brezavšček - Jež, Igor Štuhec, Ambrož Čopi).

International cooperation and awards

In 1995 the choir was invited as a study orchestra to the European Symposium on Choral Music in Ljubljana. It received the Golden Plaque at the Naša pesem Choir Competition in 1997, 1999 and 2001, First Prize at Spittal Festival in 1997, a Grand Prix at Toloza in Spain and a major prize at the International Competition at Powell River in Canada. At the 10th International Choir Festival Tallinn 2007, Estonia, the choir won second prize in chamber choir category, third prize in contemporary music category and several special awards. Besides participating in competitions, the De Profundis Chamber Choir has performed many concerts in Slovenia and in Germany, Spain, Italy, Croatia, and Slovakia.

Discography

Over the years, four CDs have been released: Slovenske ljudske pesmi (1998), Magnum mysterium (2001), Verbum supernum prodiens (2003), and Poet tvoj nov Slovencem venec vije (2009).

The choir's individual recordings were recorded on several national and international compilations: Internationaler Chorwettbeverb in Miltenberg (1998); 31. Tolosako Abesbatz Lehiaketa in Tolosa (1999); International Choral Kathaumixw' in Vancouver (2000); XX. festival Radovljica 2002; Verbum supernum prodiens in Stuttgart (2003); Andrej Misson: Letni časi – Moteti - Ljudske in Ljubljana (2004); Zlati zbori ob jubileju - DSS 60 let in Ljubljana (2005); and Choral singing in Slovenia in Ljubljana (2005).
