Before 1998 documentary films were part of the international Art Film Fest (now Ljubljana International Film Festival (LIFFe)), which was staged every autumn at Cankarjev dom Culture and Congress Centre. Since 1998 the contemporary world documentary film production has been featured annually in a special Spring session as an International Documentary Film Festival. Each year prizes are awarded at this festival.
From 26th March through 2nd April 2008 the 10th International Documentary Film Festival took place. Different programme sections presented the so-called problem, socially critical works, films about myths and icons of the present and the past, intimate portraits, as well as retrospectives of prominent Slovene and foreign documentarists.
