Nika Urbas studied Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. Up to 1999 she designed collections for Slovene textile companies and was twice finalist in the Smirnoff International Fashion Awards. She also worked for several magazines as a stylist and illustrator. In 2003 she presented her first Urbas collection of exclusive clothes, and in 2004 she was selected as a 'Rising Star' in Slovene fashion design in the British Council Slovenia project 'Crossroad of Ideas'.
In 2001 Jana Urbas received 1st Prize for a short animation at a workshop by Polish animator Jerzy Kucia and also won an award at the 2002 photography competition Photographic Experience within the Days of European Culture festival.
