Located in the main town square in Velenje, the Velenje Gallery is the oldest and most vivid fine arts institution in the Šaleška Valley. Its exhibition programme focuses mostly on local and Slovene artists. Since 1990 the gallery organises also the Velenje Artists' Colony for the graduate students of Academy of Fine Arts and Design. Its rich permanent collection of modern Slovene art (the Gorenje Collection) and paintings of well-known local painter Lojze Perko have been exhibited at Velenje Castle.
